The Swedish Justice has issued this Thursday a sentence against five minors for their involvement in an attempted murder directed against the Iranian researcher Arvin Joshnood, an academic at Lund University and known for his criticism of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The main defendant, a 17-year-old, has been found guilty and sentenced to three years and nine months of detention in a juvenile center for planning the researcher's murder. The events date back to September of last year, when he went to Joshnood's home, in the city of Malmo, armed with a knife, according to several Swedish media outlets.
At that time, the teenager, who was then 16 years old, went to the researcher's home with the bladed weapon. It was Joshnood's wife who opened the door and immediately closed it upon realizing the threat. The young man then circled the house and tried to gain access from the back, but finally left the place without achieving his objective.
According to police investigations, the minor, captured by security cameras installed at Joshnood's house, would have been hired through an intermediary to settle a drug-related debt that weighed on him. In addition, the young man faces another charge of attempted murder for having broken into a car dealership in Uddevalla and opening fire on one of the salesmen.
The Uddevalla district court has also imposed sentences on four other young people linked to this case, convicted of various crimes, including complicity in attempted murder. All of them will have to serve detention measures in a juvenile center.
Joshnood, who had already received a prior warning from the Swedish Security Service and had contacted the Police for this reason, stated in March that behind the attack would be "one of Sweden's most notorious criminal networks, Foxtrot."
"At least one key individual in my case is also suspected of involvement in planning an attack against a Swedish defense company that has cooperated with Israel. Furthermore, several of the people arrested in my case are also suspects in another investigation, one in which links to one of Sweden's most notorious criminal networks, Foxtrot, have emerged. The leader of this criminal network is currently in Iran," he stated.
