The European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, stated this Friday that "not a single person" among those who crossed into Ceuta from Morocco in the last two days has reached continental territory of the European Union, after having a phone conversation with the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares.
"Not a single person has crossed into continental EU. We will remain in close contact and are in communication with ministers across Europe," he indicated in a brief message published on his social media, in which he reported on the call with Albares.
According to Brunner, the head of Spanish diplomacy "(he) informed (him) that, after continued efforts, practically all the people who had entered Ceuta have returned."
The European Commissioner reacted to a previous post by Albares on social media, in which the minister reminded that "it is not possible to travel from Ceuta and Melilla to the Peninsula without identifying oneself at a police control."
"Enough of interested confusion," emphasized the Foreign Minister, referring to the migration crisis recorded in Ceuta during the last 24 hours, in which more than fifty people have died and which has caused Italy to suspend the free transit agreement with Spain.
According to the latest update provided by the Spanish Government, a total of 48,300 immigrants had returned to Morocco from Ceuta by 6:00 PM on Friday, July 31.
