The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has criticized Iran's "continued hostile attacks" against Kuwait this Monday, after the country reported a new bombing attributed to Iranian forces, shortly after the Revolutionary Guard claimed an attack against a U.S. "base" in the region in retaliation for recent U.S. bombings on Iranian territory.

In an official statement, the GCC Secretary General, Jasem Mohamed al-Budaiui, stressed that "these actions represent a dangerous and irresponsible escalation, a flagrant violation of Kuwait's sovereignty and all international laws and norms, and a direct threat to regional security and stability."

Al-Budaiui insisted that the repetition of such attacks reflects an "unacceptable" attitude from Iran that "undermines all efforts aimed at maintaining security and stability," and therefore called on the international community to "assume its responsibilities" and "adopt a firm and deterrent stance" against Tehran.

The GCC official also emphasized that all member states of the organization —Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar— "are united and maintain a firm position alongside the State of Kuwait, in support of all measures and steps it takes to protect its security, safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and maintain the safety of its citizens and residents."

Hours before this statement, the Kuwaiti Army reported that its air defense systems were "responding to missile and drone threats," after Iran claimed to have hit a U.S. "base" in the area following a U.S. bombing against Iranian soil.

At the same time, the U.S. Army confirmed attacks against "Iranian drone radars and command and control stations" over the weekend in the town of Geruk and the island of Qeshm, located on both sides—east and west—of the Strait of Hormuz, in response to the downing of a U.S. drone by Iran.
