The leader of Alternative for Germany (AfD), the German far-right party, Alice Weidel, has denounced this Thursday the "invasion" of Ceuta and has reiterated that "it is likely" that the final destination of many of the migrants who have arrived in Spain will end up being Germany.
In a message disseminated on her social networks, accompanied by a video showing young people crossing the border at the beach of El Tarajal, Weidel has stated that "the Spanish enclave of Ceuta is being invaded at this moment: more than 1,500 migrants, mostly from Morocco and Algeria, have entered the EU in a very short time."
The AfD leader has added that "it is likely that their destination is Germany" and has insisted on the need to "close the borders right now and rigorously apply the return measures," emphasizing that Germany cannot allow "what happened in 2015" to be repeated, referring to the refugee crisis from Syria.
Throughout this Thursday, thousands of people, mainly of Maghreb origin, have managed to access Ceuta from Morocco both by swimming and crossing the border breakwater. So far this year, a total of 2,991 people have entered irregularly into the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla by land, which represents an increase of 140% compared to the same period last year.
Following the outbreak of this new migration crisis, the governments of Spain and Morocco have agreed to implement measures for the delivery "as soon as possible" of "all" migrants who have illegally accessed the autonomous city in recent days, especially during the day of this Thursday.
