The Moscow councilor, Sergei Sobyanin, has described this Sunday as an "atrocious terrorist act" the explosion registered the night before in a café in the center of the Russian capital, an event that so far leaves three dead and 21 injured.
"Yesterday, an atrocious terrorist act was committed in Moscow that claimed human lives. The injured are now in hospitals in the city, where they are being provided with all necessary assistance," the mayor pointed out in a message shared on his social media, in which he expressed his support for the victims.
Sobyanin emphasized that the authorities have already opened an investigation to clarify what happened and stressed that "the culprits will be located without fail and will receive the punishment they deserve," insisting that the attack will not go unpunished.
The blast took place in the vicinity of Kudrinskaya Square, in central Moscow, around 8:10 PM (7:10 PM in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands), an area where one of the most recognizable buildings in the city stands: the imposing skyscraper designed by Mikhail Posokhin in the Stalinist era.
Among the fatalities is the alleged perpetrator of the attack, who is said to have detonated the explosive device when a security guard tried to block her access to the establishment. Both this guard and one of the customers of the establishment have also lost their lives due to the explosion.
