The Lebanese government chief, Nawaf Salam, reiterated this Thursday that the country's institutions will work to make possible the return of displaced residents from the southern localities, an area that has been under Israeli occupation as part of the offensive against the Shiite militia party Hezbollah.
"The state will not only recover the land, but will return with them: starting with the deployment of the army and security forces," the Lebanese leader stated after meeting with political officials and emergency services in the south of the country.
The prime minister emphasized that, after the initial presence of armed and security forces, it will be necessary to complete the reopening of the roads, the removal of the remnants of destruction, and the restoration of essential services for the population. "Finally ensuring what is necessary for a dignified return and temporary and transitional housing, including prefabricated houses," he added.
Salam has traveled to the locality of Zautar al Garbiyé, considered a "pilot zone" where the Lebanese army has begun its deployment after the withdrawal of Israeli troops, with the aim of conveying a message of reassurance and support to the displaced people at the start of this new phase.
"The people of the South will not be alone in this stage, as the ministries, institutions, and state councils are mobilized to carry out this task, and the state will be present with all its capacities to initiate the path of return and prompt recovery," he stated.
The Armed Forces of Lebanon have confirmed their presence in this "pilot zone" of Zautar el Garbiyé, from which the Israeli army has withdrawn. This process is being supervised by the Lebanese Military Coordination Group (MCG4L), with the support and participation of the United States, to ensure the implementation of the framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon.
