The President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, announced this Sunday that the drone that caused two injuries last Friday when it crashed in the city of Galati is of Russian origin, a conclusion confirmed "indisputably" and "unambiguously" by the technical report prepared by investigators.

As the head of the Romanian state explained on his official profiles, the crashed aircraft is "a Geran-2, of Russian origin." "This is the indisputable conclusion of the technical report finalized by Romanian state specialists," he stated.

Experts have managed to identify the model's designation from the Cyrillic alphabet characters found in the wreckage. Furthermore, the electronic components, guidance systems, control modules, engine, and examined structural parts "show similarities to the point of being identical" to those of other Geran-2 drones previously recovered on Romanian territory and "certainly identified as manufactured in the Russian Federation."

The expert document also details that the production marks, technical inscriptions, design particularities, and materials used "follow the same technological process found in Geran-2 drones analyzed in recent years" and that "physico-chemical analyses have confirmed the presence of the same types of materials and fuels repeatedly identified in devices of this series."

"Based on all these elements, the investigation concludes unambiguously that the fragments recovered in Galati come from a Geran-2 drone of Russian origin," emphasized the president, who, in light of this evidence, points to Russia as the "sole responsible party" for the incident. This is the most serious incident to have occurred on Romanian territory since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, launched in February 2022 by order of President Vladimir Putin, and the first episode of this type with injuries in a member country of the European Union and NATO.
