The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has stated that Israel is "very happy" with the agreement reached for the disarmament of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), a pact that he has described as a "historic" fact, while the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has not yet publicly reacted to the announcement.
"We have an agreement with Israel. Israel is very happy about it. Israel has helped us. And they have behaved very well. They have behaved very well about it," he declared to reporters after a cabinet meeting at Camp David, the presidential retreat located about 100 kilometers from Washington.
The American leader has avoided clarifying what must happen first, whether the disarmament of Hamas or the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, but he emphasized that "most people said it would be an impossible agreement to carry out."
"Now, will it go through ups and downs? It is a very complex situation. I don't know. People are very complex and difficult; in many cases wonderful, in many others not so much. But this will mean a great advance. No one had ever thought it possible to disarm Hamas," the president insisted.
Trump has presented the understanding announced early in the morning as a "great success that we are having with Iran." "If we go back four or five months, an agreement like that would have been impossible. So it is a great step for the Middle East. And people are really impressed and surprised by it," he added.
For now, only the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, has reacted to the pact, which he has described as "unacceptable" considering that it gives a 'green light' for Palestinian militias to carry out a new "massacre" in Israeli territory, and he has demanded to maintain "targeted killings" against its members and the occupation of Gaza.
The agreement announced by Trump for the "total disarmament" stipulates that Hamas must hand over all its weapons in a single process, so that the Peace Board, the international body promoted by the American president, takes control of the enclave. First, the International Stabilization Force will be deployed, and subsequently, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (CNAG) will be launched, the political structure that will be headed by the Palestinian economist and former Deputy Minister of the Palestinian Authority Ali Shaath.
