The president of the United States has communicated that starting this Monday an "humanitarian" initiative will be activated aimed at allowing the departure of ships held in the Persian Gulf as a result of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in the context of the war between the United States and Iran.
"This process, Project Liberty, begins on Monday morning, Middle East time," Trump explained in a message posted on social media.
The US leader details that "almost all" countries in the world that do not participate in the "dispute" between Washington and Tehran have requested help from Washington to "free their ships trapped in the Strait of Hormuz". "They are neutral and innocent passers-by," he pointed out.
For this reason, he has indicated that "we are going to guide their ships so that they can safely leave these restricted waterways so that they can continue with their business", all of this "for the good of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States".
Once they have abandoned the area, "they have said they will not return until the area is safe," explained Trump, thus making it clear that this is not a permanent operation.
In fact, he has underlined the "humanitarian" component of this action, although he has also warned that anyone who interferes in this "humanitarian process" will receive a "forceful response".
"This movement of ships simply seeks to free these people, companies, and countries that have done absolutely nothing wrong. They are victims of circumstance," he stated.
He stressed that it is a "humanitarian gesture on behalf of the United States, the countries of the Middle East, and, in particular, the country of Iran," before warning that on many of these ships, food is running out "and everything else necessary for these large crews to remain on board in a healthy and sanitary manner."
Regarding the dialogue with Iran, Trump has highlighted that "my representatives are maintaining very positive contacts with the country of Iran and these contacts could bring something very positive for everyone".
"I think there is a lot ahead to demonstrate good faith from all those who have been fighting so intensely for so many months," Trump pointed out in his message.
