In this context, he has reiterated his full support for the Moroccan plan for Western Sahara, which he considers the only possible way to overcome the historic "statu quo" in the region.
In his congratulatory telegram, disseminated by the Moroccan official agency MAP, Trump emphasizes that "the United States is clear: we recognize Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara and support the Moroccan proposal for serious, credible, and realistic autonomy as the only basis for reaching a solution."
The president then underscores that "any other course of action would only prolong the statu quo, which is unacceptable. This conflict must end now, and the United States will continue to push for progress toward this goal."
Trump also highlights the figure of the Alaouite monarch, whose "wise leadership" he defines as "a pillar of stability" within the framework of the extensive bilateral relationship between Washington and Rabat, which this year reaches its 250th anniversary.
In his message, the U.S. president emphasizes that "Morocco's constant commitment to work for peace, combat extremism, and protect the security of Americans and Moroccans, even through its fundamental role in the Abraham Accords, reflects a valuable alliance for the United States. To that end, we will also work together to ensure the security of the Sahel region."
Trump also values that "his vision of growth opens prospects for prosperity for our two peoples and our economies," and explains that he has instructed his team to "work towards the economic and social development of Morocco, including the Western Sahara region."
The president concludes his message by emphasizing that "American technology and innovation, which enjoy the trust of the United States, will continue to be allies of Morocco for the next 250 years in all strategic sectors, especially in energy, artificial intelligence, rare earth minerals, and defense," and announces "a new era of relations" in which the interests of both countries will have "priority status."
