The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andri Sibiga, held a telephone conversation this Thursday with his Indian counterpart, Subramanyam Jaishankar, in which he emphasized that the repercussions of the war resulting from the Russian invasion widely transcend Ukrainian borders. The call took place after the death of an Indian citizen in an attack on the merchant ship 'Omorfi' in the Black Sea, an incident that has prompted a formal complaint from New Delhi.
"I have highlighted that the consequences of the Russian aggression go far beyond the borders of Ukraine. By attacking civilian ships in the Black Sea, Russia undermines freedom of navigation and endangers global food security," Sibiga has stated on social media, where he informed about the telephone conversation with his Indian counterpart.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy has remarked that the open conflict with Moscow, which has entered its fifth year, "exacerbates instability in global energy markets, which has repercussions for countries far beyond our region."
Furthermore, Sibiga has reiterated Kiev's "commitment" to a "comprehensive, just, and lasting" peace, for which he has called on the Indian government to "play an active role" in these initiatives.
The dialogue between both ministers occurs after Indian authorities summoned the Ukrainian ambassador to the country, Alexander Polishchuk, on Monday to convey their protest over the death of the Indian citizen in the previous days' attack on the merchant ship 'Omorfi' in the Black Sea.
