The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has updated the balance of children who have died due to Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip to 300 since the entry into force of the ceasefire agreed in October 2025 between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). This figure represents, on average, the death of one minor each day since then.
"It is a ceasefire that leaves, on average, one child dead each day and that is harming minors every day," lamented the regional director of UNICEF for the Middle East and North Africa, Edouard Beigbeder, in a statement.
The regional head of UNICEF has positively assessed the most recent announcements to implement the next phase of the United States plan aimed at ending hostilities in Gaza and increasing humanitarian aid, and has urged all parties involved to ensure that these commitments "translate into actions."
"This offers new hopes and the opportunity to finally stop the death of children," he expressed, adding that "hundreds of children" in Gaza, many of them seriously injured, "are still waiting for the end of the violence that was promised to them" under the agreement.
UNICEF has called on the parties to fully respect their obligations under International Law, particularly the protection of children, the maintenance of their access to essential goods and services, as well as the guarantee of healthcare, education, the supply of drinking water, and food. It has also emphasized the need to allow and facilitate safe, rapid, and unhindered humanitarian access to assist the population in need.
For their part, the authorities of the Gaza Strip have reported that the military offensive launched by the Israel Defense Forces on the Palestinian enclave, in retaliation for the attacks carried out on October 7 by Hamas and other Palestinian factions, has so far left 73,381 dead and 174,231 injured.
