The Minister of the Presidency, Justice, and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños, defended this Thursday that, three years ago, citizens rejected "a reactionary Government" and that, as a consequence, Spain now enjoys economic growth, "record employment," and "more social justice." His words come in the midst of the current political cycle's assessment.
In response to that reading, the spokesperson for the Popular Group in Congress, Ester Muñoz, replied to Bolaños reminding him that Alberto Núñez Feijóo won in the general elections of 2023 and denounced that, currently, the country is enduring higher inflation and that many Spaniards cannot "either buy or rent an apartment."
The interventions of both leaders coincide with the third anniversary of the general elections of July 23, in which the PP positioned itself as the leading force with 137 seats, ahead of the PSOE, which obtained 121 deputies. Despite this, Pedro Sánchez managed to weave a parliamentary majority and was invested as president at the end of November of that same year.
Bolaños claims the result of 2023
In a message published on his 'X' account, collected by Europa Press, the minister highlighted that "today marks three years since the elections of 2023." "Then the Spaniards decided that they wanted to move forward and not a reactionary Government," he stated while recalling that date with the polls.
In that same publication, the Minister of Justice emphasized that Spain today has "a country with growth and record employment," in addition to "more social justice and defending human rights." "We continue," he concluded in his comment on the social network.
Response from the PP: criticisms of the economy and housing
Bolaños' statements were immediately responded to by Ester Muñoz, parliamentary spokesperson for the PP, who replied that three years ago the PSOE "lost the elections" and accused the socialists of having accessed power through questioned pacts by her party: "You bought the Government by exchanging votes for impunity," she reproached him.
Muñoz also described a country "where people cannot buy or rent a house, where inflation eats away at salaries and pensions, where Spaniards cannot make ends meet and also feel more insecure than ever." With these words, she wanted to contrast the Government's economic narrative with the situation that, in her opinion, a good part of the population is experiencing.
The popular leader has added on the same social network that, in her opinion, Spain is today a country in which the PSOE "has turned the majority of state institutions into a sewer" and "where the Government confronts the Judiciary to defend criminals," thus raising the tone of political confrontation on this third anniversary of the general elections.
