The Congress of Deputies has again rejected this Tuesday a non-legislative proposal registered by Vox in which a new censure of the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, was demanded. The formation of Santiago Abascal maintains that the performance of the head of the portfolio is "disastrous" and that it has affected "severely" the quality, safety, and reliability of the railway network.
Puente has already accumulated several censures, both in the Lower House and in the Senate, and Vox has been promoting this type of initiative repeatedly, especially after the railway tragedy in Adamuz, in January, in which 46 people died.
In the Transport Commission held this Tuesday, September 29, Vox has again raised a non-legislative proposal whose central objective was the censure of the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. An amendment from the PP was added to that text so that, in addition to censuring the minister, the Government was urged to apply the sections of the Sustainable Mobility Law that are still pending, including the approval of an urgent care plan for passengers in the event of extraordinary incidents.
Despite this, the initiative did not move forward as it did not receive sufficient support, being rejected by a majority formed by PSOE, Sumar, ERC, Junts, Bildu, PNV, and BNG.
In the statement of reasons, collected by Europa Press, Vox detailed various incidents recorded in the railway network in recent months, such as the interruption of high-speed service between Madrid and Seville during the May 1 bridge, the fire on a medium-distance train between Cáceres and Madrid in February 2024, or the stoppage of more than two and a half hours suffered by a train that year on the Madrid-Pamplona route.
For all these reasons, the group requested the censure of the Minister of Transport for the "disastrous management at the head of said ministry, which has severely affected the quality, safety, and reliability of the railway network, undermining the trust of users and the image of the Spanish railway system."
