The general secretary of the PSOE in the capital of Jaén and current mayor of Jaén, Julio Millán, has been confirmed again as a candidate for the mayoralty of the city after achieving 70 percent of the votes from the membership in a primary that he himself promoted, renouncing the automatic designation that corresponded to him as mayor.
During the day this Saturday the 26th, a total of 376 socialist affiliates exercised their right to vote to choose the person who will lead the candidacy for the mayoralty. Millán has garnered 263 endorsements, compared to the 111 obtained by the list led by Carlos Alberca. Participation has hovered around 70 percent of the membership census, according to the party in a statement.
After the result was known, the socialist leader expressed his gratitude for the support received, which places him again at the forefront of the municipal project of the PSOE ahead of the local elections of 2027. "I have felt the support of many people: in addition to that of the members at the polls, that of neighbors, businesspeople, representatives of associations and collectives, to whom I thank for the messages of encouragement; it is a result significant enough to support my intention that this step was the result of a collective decision, of the party," Millán pointed out, who also highlighted the high participation "that has made this a great day for the Casa del Pueblo."
Millán insisted that the involvement of the membership in this vote reinforces his commitment to open the internal process. "The comrades have freely exercised their right to vote and I thank them, it has been a beautiful day of democracy and celebration with more than 400 people coming to decide with their vote" and, although he acknowledged that these days have been "complicated" "this compensates for it."
At the time, the mayor already indicated that he was calling for the opening of these primaries to request "the endorsement of the membership" and to be able to "face as a team" the continuity of the political project that the PSOE has promoted in the City Council under his mandate, after the motion of censure that, in January 2025, allowed him to regain the mayoralty.
In parallel, in the municipality of Linares, Javier Perales will be the head of the PSOE list after winning in the internal process with 105 votes against the 55 collected by Ana Cobo, according to socialist sources.
