The spokesperson of the parliamentary group Por Andalucía, Antonio Maíllo, has questioned whether the newly inaugurated XIII Andalusian legislature after the constitution of the Parliament and the formation of the new Government of the Junta presided over by Juanma Moreno will enjoy "stability," and has predicted that this factor will depend on whether PP and Vox —current partners in the regional Executive— manage to govern in Spain after the upcoming general elections scheduled for 2027.
This has been conveyed by the also federal coordinator of Izquierda Unida (IU) in an interview with Europa Press, in which he indicated that he believes that PP and Vox have "a will now" for the legislature that has just begun in Andalusia to be "stable, which does not mean that it will be," he specified.
In this same line, Maíllo has emphasized that the true "executors" of the government pact sealed by PP and Vox in Andalusia are the national leaders of both formations, Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Santiago Abascal, and that "they will be very conditioned by the possibility or not of reaching an agreement" if the result of the general elections allows them to "do it."
Thus, the IU leader has declared himself "convinced" that if PP and Vox "do not achieve the Government of Spain" after the upcoming general elections, "the stability in Andalusia collapses the next day," because both forces "would not bear not governing in Spain, which is what they have tried to do with the Andalusian pact, and that central Government" will depend on their stability in Andalusia.
"Political defeat" of Juanma Moreno and pact with Vox
After the results of the regional elections on May 17, in which PP-A was once again the most voted list but fell two seats short of revalidating the absolute majority of the previous legislature, and after Juanma Moreno has reiterated that his goal was to govern alone without incorporating Vox into the Executive, Maíllo argues that the president of the Junta "would be sincere if he had spoken of defeat," that is, if he admitted that he has been "politically defeated" and now heads a "great alliance with Vox," with which he has signed "the most reactionary agreement that has been made" with this party, "the agenda of Vox," he has emphasized.
For Maíllo, it represents "a defeat" that Moreno has "embraced the cause of authoritarian right and extreme right, of extremism," so that "the mask of the 'moderate' has run out" which, in his opinion, he has tried to "sell" for almost eight years at the head of the Andalusian Government. "That is already over," concluded the spokesperson for Por Andalucía.
In relation to the government pact between PP-A and Vox, he emphasized his denunciation of "climate denialism" that, in his opinion, the agreement incorporates, and highlighted that Juanma Moreno and the leader of Vox in Andalusia, Manuel Gavira, have signed their names in "opposition to the Green Pact of the 2030 Agenda" and to "climate conditioning being decisive in their policies."
Against that stance, Maíllo recalled that forest fires like those recorded this summer in Los Gallardos (Almería) or in the province of Huelva demonstrate that "there is climate change" and "an ecosocial crisis of colossal dimensions," while, in his opinion, they show that Andalusia does not have "the appropriate government" to face this challenge.
In that line, he warned that the current regional Executive is "putting the fox in charge of the henhouse" on issues like forest fires that may recur this summer, as "governments that deny climate change" are being formed and that, at the same time, "are in charge of the extinction" of fires "caused by climate change."
Maíllo added that he has "no doubt" that, in the face of the fires, there will be "coordination between the administrations" involved, but he warned that "the problem" arises when executives like the Andalusian one, as he criticizes, "reduce the staff of Infoca" and keep their personnel in "conditions of precariousness, of lack of professional recognition," something that, he warned, may lead many to "abandon" the Andalusian extinction device if they find another job with "more incentive."
On the other hand, Maíllo pointed out that Vox "has not requested" in the new Andalusian Government the portfolios of education, health, or dependency because in those areas "the Partido Popular itself is doing the work."
Criticism of Moreno's narrative after the 17M and absence of contacts
After Moreno has defended that Vox was the only force that offered to negotiate with the PP-A after the elections and that the only alternative to that agreement was to repeat the elections in October, the spokesperson for Por Andalucía has replied that this approach is "pure fiction" from the president of the Junta, who "has wanted to justify the pact with Vox" when, in reality, it has been driven by "the Partido Popular in Madrid and Santiago Abascal," according to what he has stated.
In this line, the leader of IU has reiterated that the agreement "was cooked and executed" by Feijóo and Abascal, so that Juanma Moreno "has been the foreman who signed the agreement, but without any leading role in the matter," and he has opined that a repeat election in Andalucía would have sent the message to the citizens that they had "voted wrong" on May 17.
Maíllo has also assured that the PP-A "never called" the Por Andalucía group after the elections to explore any type of understanding that would allow Moreno's investiture without Vox, and that to date it maintains "zero levels of communication with any opposition group." "There was no call" to the Por Andalucía group from the PP-A to gauge a possible agreement that would facilitate the investiture, he has insisted, and has added that "not even" in the call he himself made to Moreno "to congratulate him on the results" of 17M "was there any reference to that."
Asked whether Por Andalucía would have considered discussing the possibility of facilitating Moreno's investiture outside of Vox in case the president had requested it, Maíllo has responded that "that is worth nothing when the Partido Popular was already negotiating with Vox, and especially when it had the unequivocal will to negotiate with Vox."
The IU leader has also opined that Moreno "has very misled broad sectors of Andalusian society" who thought "honestly" that the leader of the PP-A "was really moderate," and that now, after the agreement with Vox, "they will have to wake up and discover" that he is going to apply "a harsh execution of reactionary policies in Andalucía."
In that sense, Maíllo has considered that "there are people who have voted for the PP who have been scandalized by the terms in which the government pact of this legislature has been addressed," in which "practically the agenda of Vox was included within the text of the agreement," and has reiterated that Moreno "no longer has his own profile," but is "just another pawn in the strategy of Feijóo and Abascal, just another pawn of (José María) Aznar."
Maíllo has also denounced "the terms in which" Moreno has approved his "infamous" government agreement, in which, he has censured, "he has assumed absolutely delirious theses from Vox," and where "there has not been a single word related to gender violence, nor a reference to something that causes deaths like the three" recorded in recent days in Andalusia, as he has emphasized.
