The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has backed the decision to send the frigate “Cristóbal Colón” to Cyprus, stressing that, with the same firmness with which Spain defends the “no to war” it also maintains its commitment of solidarity with a community partner to reinforce the “collective defense and security” of a country that fully suffers the consequences of the conflict.
In an appearance before the media during the XXXVI Spanish-Portuguese Summit, held alongside his Portuguese counterpart, Luís Montenegro, the head of the Executive has reiterated his rejection of the Israeli and American offensive against Iran, and has once again opted for multilateralism and for a “transatlantic link” based on respect, in which “the international law is the backbone and not confrontation the way forward.”
In response to the formal request from Cyprus, Sánchez has detailed that Spain has joined an operation “of protection, defense, and rescue”, in which it participates with the frigate “Cristóbal Colón”, whose deployment will materialize in the coming days.
