The Foundation City of Energy (Ciuden) is putting the finishing touches on the conference "Justice, Voices and Memory: From Systemic Violence to Reparation," which will be held this Saturday at La Térmica Cultural, in Ponferrada (León), and will be inaugurated by the third vice president and minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco), Sara Aagesen, and the minister of Equality, Ana Redondo.

The meeting will take place at La Térmica Cultural in Ponferrada (León) and will bring together institutional representatives, experts from the legal, academic, and social fields, communication professionals, and prominent figures in the defense of equality, with the aim of analyzing power structures, different forms of sexist violence, and reparation processes.

The conference will begin at 10:00 AM with the institutional opening ceremony, in which Sara Aagesen and Ana Redondo will speak, followed by the thematic block "Experience, Memory, and Reparative Action." Within this space, the session "Complaints that Pave the Way. Memory, Courage, and Reparation" will be held, moderated by the commissioner for the Water Cycle and Ecosystem Restoration, Laura Martín.

Nevenka Fernández, a pioneer in Spain in the fight against harassment and a benchmark in making this form of violence visible, and Charo Velasco, a professional with an extensive career combining health, political, and technical experience, will participate in this panel, as Ciuden has stated in a press release sent to Europa Press.

At 11:00 AM, the inauguration of the mural created by the illustrator Mercedes de Bellard, an artist whose work has focused particularly on female portraiture and the representation of women, is scheduled. After this event, there will be a break to encourage networking and exchange between speakers and attendees. The presentation of the mural, in which the ministers, Nevenka Fernández, and the author herself will also participate, will take place outside La Térmica Cultural.

Power Structures, Systemic Violence, and the Media

Subsequently, in the block "Structures, Power, and Systemic Violence," an analysis of machismo in public life will be addressed from various perspectives. The session "Institutional Patriarchy: Machismo in Public Life," moderated by the Gender Correspondent of El País, Isabel Valdés, will feature the interventions of Miguel Lorente, titular professor of Legal and Forensic Medicine at the University of Granada and an expert in gender violence; Itziar Gómez, titular professor of Constitutional Law at the Carlos III University of Madrid and former legal advisor to the Constitutional Court; and María Gavilán, a judge of the first instance and member of the Association of Women Judges.

Later, the session "Harassment and Machista Violence in Social Public Life" will be held, focusing on the dynamics of violence in the media, digital environments, and culture. Moderated by the Chief Editor of Gender at elDiario.es, Ana Requena, it will feature contributions from Elisa García-Mingo, titular professor of Sociology at the Complutense University of Madrid and a specialist in sexual and digital violence; Hilario Sáez, president of the Social Initiative Foundation and a member of the Forum and the Network of Men for Equality; and the visual artist, consultant, and trainer in egalitarian communication Yolanda Domínguez.

The closing of the conference will be led by Miguel González, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

Attendance at this event will be free. Given the high interest generated and once the capacity of the Antracita Auditorium is reached, those who have not been able to formalize their reservation will be able to follow the entire program development via a screen installed in the lobby of La Térmica Cultural.

With this initiative, Ciuden seeks to reaffirm its commitment to promoting equality between women and men and to creating spaces for dialogue and reflection on the challenges still pending in this area. The conference aims to reinforce awareness of the different manifestations of machista violence, promote collective memory, and contribute to the construction of a more just, inclusive, and egalitarian society.
