The Government Delegation in Melilla has indicated that the situation at the border limit with Morocco remains "calm" and that the flow of vehicles and pedestrians in both directions through the Beni Enzar crossing continues normally, after it was reopened this morning following nearly two days of closure. According to the data provided by the Delegation, around 800 vehicles have crossed the border since the reopening and until 7:00 PM this Saturday.
As detailed by the Delegation, for security reasons the resumption of passage is being carried out gradually and, for humanitarian reasons, priority has been given to the cars of the Operation Crossing of the Strait (OPE) that had been held since Thursday night.
Since the reopening of the border post this morning and until 7:00 PM, nearly 600 vehicles have departed for Morocco, while approximately 200 have entered Melilla. Regarding the passage of pedestrians, this continues to operate under the same criteria of graduality; however, for now, there is no precise count of the number of pedestrians who have crossed, according to the Delegation.
The Government delegate in Melilla, Sabrina Moh, had explained during the morning of this Saturday that pedestrian transit is being carried out in both directions through organized groups of about twenty people to ensure safety and the smoothness of passage, and that the situation will continue to be evaluated permanently based on the evolution of circumstances.
