The spokesperson for the CUP, Su Moreno, has maintained that the corruption cases affecting the major parties that have governed in Spain constitute a "structural problem," which is why, in her opinion, the focus of the debate should not be on what the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, should do, but on what is happening in a political regime where these episodes are recurrently repeated.

Moreno expressed this at a press conference this Monday at the party's headquarters, when asked about the alleged corruption cases that tarnish the PSOE and the possibility of general elections being called. Faced with this, she defended that the fundamental issue is whether the current legislature "is serving" to promote structural transformations and advance social rights.

"Because if the function of the legislature is to guarantee stability at any price, then it has an obvious problem," she remarked.

Along these lines, she denounced that the strength of independentism has been "hijacked" and expressed her concern about the attitude of some parties that, as she said, define themselves as left-wing, since she considers that any criticism of the PSOE is neutralized by the fear of the rise of the far-right.

She insisted that this dynamic is a serious mistake and stressed that "there is nothing worse than a fearful left," reproaching the, she says, lack of firmness of certain parties, among which she mentioned the role of the Comuns and ERC.

PSC and judicial cases

In relation to the National Court's request for information from the PSOE, which includes the expenses of the PSC's campaign in the 2024 Catalan elections, she stressed that corruption is inadmissible and cannot be tolerated, and pointed out that, if the investigations advance, the "pertinent explanations" must be offered.

Regarding the investigation opened by the TSJC into the ERC deputy and former Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena, for alleged irregular awards in Altafulla (Tarragona), she indicated that it will be necessary to follow the evolution of these proceedings and assured that the CUP will always strive to be "implacable" in the face of any indication or suspicion.
