The Government delegate in Ceuta, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano, has updated the balance of deceased migrants to 72 when trying to access Ceuta from Morocco during the massive entry last Thursday, a day in which about 50,000 people reached the city.
In an appearance before the media this Sunday, the representative of the Executive lamented the death of these "innocent people" who lost their lives trying to reach the city.
Pérez Triano also pointed out that the files of people who have entered the autonomous city irregularly in recent days will be expedited, with the intention of executing the returns "as soon as possible."
The delegate detailed that the presence of the State Security Forces and Corps and the Armed Forces has been reinforced to almost 3,000 personnel among agents and military, who will remain deployed in Ceuta "for as long as necessary."
Regarding the situation on the streets, he emphasized that now "there are many fewer people than entered" and that "many exits" have been recorded, although he admitted that it is complicated to provide closed figures.
On humanitarian assistance, Pérez Triano indicated that coordination is underway with the Ministry of Inclusion to provide an adequate response as soon as possible, although he acknowledged that the volume of arrivals has overwhelmed the available resources. He specified that water is being distributed, the Red Cross has been activated, and resources are being mobilized to cover basic needs.
The delegate also condemned the presence in the city of "far-right groups" that, he denounced, have come to Ceuta "with the sole objective of taking advantage of the difficulties to sow hatred, division, and fear." "Ceuta is a land of coexistence, diversity, and respect. We do not need lessons from those who only seek to gain political profit from the concerns of our neighborhoods," he emphasized.
On the other hand, he explained that there was "no type of prior information" about the massive entry until people were observed crossing the border "in that way," and he assured that the city is already in a scenario "that has nothing to do with the first 24 hours."
In relation to the procession and the floral offering planned, it has been announced that he will meet with the heads of the National Police and the Civil Guard, who in principle do not see any impediments for its celebration, pending the finalization of the security arrangements.
