Catalonia has reached a "record" number of social security affiliations in agricultural, livestock, and fishing activities during the month of August, with a total of 61,195 people registered, the highest figure recorded in a month of August and the maximum value of the entire available statistical series.
In comparison with the same month of last year, employment in this area has grown by 2.4%, as detailed by the Govern in a statement released this Saturday.
These records can be consulted in the agro-food, rural, and environmental Observatory of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fishing, and Food of the Generalitat, prepared based on the data provided monthly by Idescat.
The department emphasizes that the evolution of affiliations demonstrates the capacity of the primary sector to sustain and create economic activity and employment throughout the territory, and reminds that the monthly figures highlight the "seasonality" in the sector's employment, with a particularly marked incidence between May and September.
The data also confirm the "strategic weight" of the agro-food sector in the Catalan economy, both for its contribution to food production and for its role in territorial cohesion and job creation, particularly in rural areas.
The agro-food Observatory is configured as an analysis and monitoring tool that collects, integrates, and disseminates statistical information on the economic, social, and labor evolution of these sectors and, among its main tasks, includes monitoring strategic indicators, preparing sectoral studies, analyzing trends, and disseminating data to support decision-making.
