The Xunta de Galicia has responded to a request from the Government of Castilla y León and has chosen to maintain in that community the resources that it had deployed to assist in the extinction of the forest fires affecting the region. To this end, it has sent a relief team that replaces the personnel who were mobilized last Thursday to León, to which an additional agent is now joining.
According to the regional government, the decision to cede and sustain these resources is based on a technical assessment carried out by the Consellería de Medio Rural regarding the current situation of the forests in Galicia. Already on Saturday, the conselleira, María José Gómez, emphasized that Galicia has "the capacity to mobilize more people" if circumstances require it.
In recent days, the Galician community has deployed more than 60 members of the Servizo de Prevención e Defensa contra Incendios Forestais (SPIF) to assist in the extinction efforts in Castilla y León and Madrid. On Thursday, Medio Rural sent to León a contingent made up of 14 professionals, a bulldozer, and a water pump, and the following day, a helicopter, a brigade, and two agents were added.
On Friday, a new deployment of personnel and machinery was carried out to support the fires in Ávila and Madrid, following a request from the central government within the framework of the national interest emergency declared, which was later extended to Toledo. Under unified command, the Galician teams were assigned to Ávila, where two helicopters, six brigades, four agents, one technician, one bulldozer, and a command post continue to operate.
In this context of high complexity in different parts of Spain, the Xunta has insisted that Galicia responds to the demands of other autonomous communities and offers its collaboration, "always guaranteeing the proper functioning of the Galician operation against fires, which remains on alert."
