Bodegas Magasé, a family winery located in La Palma del Condado (Huelva), has announced "Vetalarena," a new white wine with a very limited production of only 550 bottles, made entirely with Listán del Condado, a variety closely linked to the vineyards of Huelva. With this launch, the company aims to reclaim the wine identity of the area and convey to the glass the "singular character" of this grape grown in sandy soils near the Doñana Natural Space.

According to a statement from the head of Bodegas Magasé, Joaquín Mañes, this project "arises from the interest in conserving, promoting, and defending the native vineyard of Huelva." In this regard, he emphasized that the Listán del Condado is "perhaps one of the great unknowns of the territory, but it has a lot of personality," also highlighting the philosophy of the house, focused on respecting the plot and the particularities of each vintage as much as possible.

The grape harvest is carried out manually at the beginning of September. After selecting the bunches, the berries are destemmed and pressed in a vertical screw press. Then, the must ferments at low temperature in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts, a process aimed at preserving the freshness of the fruit and the distinctive traits of the vineyard.

The resulting wine is a dry white, with lively and integrated acidity, silky texture, and light passage. On the nose, notes of white fruit—such as pear and apple—are appreciated, accompanied by subtle citrus, white flowers, and hints of fennel, almond skin, and a slight salty touch. On the palate, it maintains a long aftertaste of fresh fruit and a slightly bitter and very refreshing finish.

Due to its organoleptic profile, "Vetalarena" is presented as a suitable companion for white fish, seafood, marine rice dishes, or grilled vegetables, recommended to be served at a temperature between 9 and 12 degrees to fully enjoy its nuances.

Regarding the limited edition of 550 bottles, Mañes explained that it is due to "the availability of the plot and the way of working" of the winery, emphasizing that they do not seek "to standardize the wine or increase the volume at any cost, but to produce a limited quantity that preserves the character of the grape and the place from which it comes."

With the arrival of "Vetalarena", Bodegas Magasé adds a new reference to a collection inspired by traditional production techniques and landscapes linked to the County of Huelva. The incorporation of Listán del Condado adds to the previous work with the Zalema variety and reinforces its "commitment" to "small-scale and minimal intervention" productions.

"We want to defend the countryside from a contemporary perspective, respect the vineyard, and ensure that the wine is an expression of the wine culture of the County, of a tradition built over centuries. We want a part of that culture, of this land, and of the work of the winemakers who have always cared for the vine to travel in every bottle," Joaquín Mañes added.
