The Federated Soil Data Space (SoilDataSpace), coordinated by the University of Jaén, has become part of the Trust List of Data Spaces of the Government of Spain, an official registry that recognizes benchmark initiatives in this area.
This institutional support, granted by resolution of the General Directorate of Data, attached to the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (Sedia), "endorses the governance model and the technological architecture of this initiative promoted by the UJA".
The platform aims to integrate, organize, and make available information on agricultural and forestry soils from public and private entities, within a common, interoperable environment with security guarantees.
Thanks to this distinction, accessible through the Reference Center for the Data Economy and with an official portal at soildataspace.es, "SoilDataSpace strengthens its role in building a collaborative ecosystem that connects public administrations, research centers, companies, and sector agents," as emphasized this Wednesday from the platform.
The project leaders have highlighted that, in addition to mere information exchange, the space is configured as a key infrastructure to promote advanced digital services and high value-added tools.
Among its main lines of work are agro-environmental monitoring for controlling the fertility and health status of agricultural soil, contributing to the fight against climate change through the estimation and traceability of stored carbon, and managing hydrological risks to analyze erosive processes in watersheds and plots.
Based on this database and services, the space will allow the development of agronomic recommendations, predictive models, dashboards, APIs, and decision-support solutions aimed at public administrations, research teams, companies, and cooperatives linked to the agri-food sector.
"In short, inclusion in this Trust List endorses the commitment of the team and the participating entities in deploying an open, secure data space aimed at generating real value for the territory and the agro-environmental sector," it has stated.
