The trademarks of the Marqués de la Concordia Group, including Federico Paternina, Lagunilla, Marqués de la Concordia, and Rioja Santiago, among others, will go up for international public auction in an 'online' format at the end of July.
This operation is part of the insolvency proceedings of the companies United Wineries Estates, S.A., United Wineries, S.A., and Marqués de la Concordia Family of Wines, S.L., as detailed by IAG Auction, appointed by the insolvency administrator as the specialized firm responsible for managing the sales process.
The bidding, which will take place 'online' from July 27 to 29, will offer interested parties a portfolio of brands with a turnover of approximately 18.5 million euros, a solid presence in foreign markets, and significant weight within the Rioja Designation of Origin.
The operation is aimed at winery groups, sector operators, investment funds, and international companies seeking to incorporate brands with high market recognition, extensive track record, and strong penetration in international wine trade.
"The acquisition of a consolidated brand allows any operator to accelerate commercial positioning much faster than developing a new one from scratch. In this case, we are talking about brands with decades of history, international recognition, and significant potential for revaluation for their future owners," explained the Project Manager Director of IAG Auction, José María Méndez.
The package offered at auction includes only intangible assets, meaning the trademarks themselves, which constitutes a rare opportunity in the wine business.
Between 2019 and 2021, these brands achieved sales of 18.49 million euros in the Rioja Designation of Origin. Federico Paternina acted as the main driver of the group, accounting for around 52% of the turnover, followed by Lagunilla, which contributed close to 29%.
Another strong point of the portfolio is its international projection: 41% of sales come from exports, with a notable presence in the Nordic countries, which account for 27.72% of foreign sales, and in Central Europe, with 21.93%.
The transfer of these assets will be carried out free of encumbrances, unless the successful bidder voluntarily opts to assume those that are applicable. The valuation of the set has been carried out with technical criteria based on normalized historical sales and the current market situation, with the aim of offering potential buyers an objective reference on the value of the brands.
The auction will be held entirely through the digital platform of IAG Auction and is aimed at both national and international operators interested in adding brands with a long commercial history and recognized positioning in the wine markets to their portfolio.
