The PSOE regional secretary and spokesperson for the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Carlos Martínez, has reiterated his request to the president of the Junta, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, so that “he makes room in his packed schedule” and sits down to negotiate with the representatives of the professional farming organizations in Castilla y León, who have been demanding a meeting at the highest level for more than two months. The aim is to address the crisis facing the primary sector, for which they are seeking 150 million euros from the Community’s own funds.

In response to this demand, the president of the Junta of Castilla y León has insisted that his Executive has always been alongside the countryside, which he considers “another victim of the poor management of the Government of Sánchez.”

“On November 29, the farmers and ranchers and the citizens of Castilla y León are going to tell you and Sánchez what they think—that is political change in our country,” Fernández Mañueco has stressed. In the face of these words, Martínez replied with irony about the “obsession” of the head of the regional Executive with the outcome of the upcoming general elections.

Martínez has again demanded that the Junta act immediately and commit in writing through the Official Gazette of Castilla y León (BOCyL), enabling the 150 million euros that the agri-livestock sector is demanding in order to urgently address the needs of the countryside. “Today, neither tomorrow, nor the day after, not even on November 30,” the Socialist leader has specified, underlining that support cannot be postponed.

The PSOE spokesperson has also attacked the “incapacity” of the Agriculture minister, Joaquín Antonio Pino, of Vox, “the one who does go to the placards,” he reproached, so that he will be able to force the Economy and Finance minister, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, of the PP, to authorize those aid measures demanded by farmers and ranchers.

“What is the reason for turning your back on the countryside—the reason is that the Ministry is held by the Vox Group or is it that you have stopped being—at least in theory and above all and fundamentally in practice—that government of the countryside in our Autonomous Community?” Martínez asked Fernández Mañueco during the control question in the regional Parliament.

The socialist leader has linked this criticism with the call for institutional responsibility that the president of the Junta himself has made on other occasions, and has demanded that he accept the socialist amendments to the motion on agriculture registered by Vox and that will be debated tomorrow in the Cortes of Castilla y León.
