A new wildfire has opened another front this Saturday in Castilla y León.
The flames began at 4:35 PM in Navas de San Antonio, a municipality located in the Segovian region of El Espinar.
Just over an hour later, at 5:48 PM, the Junta raised the fire to potential severity index 1.
What severity level 1 means
The IGR-1 declaration is activated when the evolution of a fire may cause mild restrictions to the population or affect infrastructure in a limited way.
It does not mean by itself that there is a general evacuation of the municipality.
In the case of Navas de San Antonio, the Junta justified the elevation due to the potential risk to the population or infrastructure while teams attempted to halt the advance of the flames.
25 resources are already working on the fire
The deployed operation consists of 25 aerial and ground resources.
According to Inforcyl data collected by Europa Press, two technicians, three environmental agents, three ground crews, three fire trucks, two bulldozers, five ELIF or BRIF brigades, five aerial resources, and firefighters are working.
The combined presence of heavy machinery, aerial resources, and crews allows for attacking the fire both from the ground and from the air during the last hours of light.
The cause is still under investigation
The origin of the fire is not determined.
The Junta keeps the cause under investigation and there is currently no official information that allows attributing it to negligence, a lightning strike, or intentional action.
Another fire in a province hit by fire
Segovia has already suffered significant episodes during this summer.
At the end of July, the fire in Brieva forced evacuations and confinements before improving and subsequently dropping to level 0.
The new fire in Navas de San Antonio now forces the reactivation of a large device in an area located near the axis of El Espinar and relevant communications between Castilla y León and Madrid.
During the next few hours, the key data will be the evolution of the perimeter, the possible impact on roads or homes, and any change in the severity level.
The Junta updates the situation of wildfires through Inforcyl.
