The socialist representative María del Carmen Iglesias stated this Tuesday that the Junta of Castilla y León "was overwhelmed by the fire in Burgohondo (Ávila)" due to "lack of will or lack of capacity." Furthermore, she reproached the regional government that "You were not there before the fire, you were not there during the fire, and you have not been there after the fires," referring to the management before, during, and after the fire.
In response to these criticisms, the Minister of Environment and Energy, María González Corral, defended that the regional government reacted from the beginning of the problem and that they worked to offer "quick solutions and effective solutions" in order to ensure that the affected municipalities had drinking water "as soon as possible," while questioning what measures the Government of Spain has adopted, which "also has competencies."
"You accuse us of having arrived late, others have not arrived, and in the meantime, we have gone, we have analyzed the terrain, and we are taking measures," asserted González Corral, thus claiming the Junta's action on the ground after the fire.
Iglesias emphasized that the municipality of Casavieja remained 16 days without drinking water "for nothing" and criticized that the storms "caught" the Junta "with their homework not done," since, as she indicated, the regional government took almost two months to begin working effectively on the solutions.
The socialist representative has denounced that, until now, the response has been limited to "Promises and headlines, all who want," and warned that, "with a little luck," the emergency contract approved on October 15 will not be completed until April 2027. "Emergency contracts are very well done, emergencies, clearly, are too big for them," she concluded, questioning again the Junta's ability to face such situations.
