The Civil and Instruction Chamber of Court number 4 of the Court of First Instance of El Ejido (Almería), with jurisdiction over Violence against Women, has ordered the provisional, communicated, and no-bail imprisonment of the man arrested for the shooting death of his parents in the El Canalillo neighborhood of El Ejido (Almería), as well as for wounding four other people, including his seven-month-old baby.
According to sources from the TSJA, the detainee is provisionally attributed with two consummated murder offenses and six other attempted murder offenses, two of which were allegedly directed against his partner. One of these attempted homicides allegedly occurred on Sunday, the day before the shooting that caused the other injuries.
The second attempted assault against his partner was allegedly registered on the same night of the shooting, around 11:00 PM, in the same neighborhood where his parents' bodies were later found inside a vehicle. The suspect, arrested five hours after the events, has exercised his right to remain silent.
The proceedings indicate that the man fired several shots with a nine-millimeter pistol and wounded his seven-month-old baby in the head and jaw, for which the minor remains admitted to the Pediatric ICU of the Princess Leonor Mother-Infant Hospital in Almería.
The man, who has a diagnosis of severe mental illness, is also charged with three other alleged attempted murder offenses for the people who were wounded by firearms during his escape from the crime scene.
Specifically, he allegedly fired up to three times at a 19-year-old neighbor who is recovering in the ICU of the Poniente University Hospital and at a 20-month-old baby, who was also hit by the projectiles and remains conscious in the ICU of the Mother-Infant Hospital.
Likewise, a 60-year-old foreign man suffered a gunshot wound to the head when, according to the investigation, he crossed paths with the accused during his escape. This last injured person is admitted to the ICU of the Torrecárdenas University Hospital. The Civil Guard, which is trying to determine the origin of the nine-millimeter pistol used, also charges him with an offense of illegal possession of weapons for lacking a license.
The first alerts about the shooting in this neighborhood of about 130 residents were registered shortly after 11:00 PM on the 18th, when two people were found dead inside a car with bullet impacts.
From that same vehicle, the arrested person's partner would have escaped with the baby in arms, who was indeed hit by the shots. In the same way, a neighbor who went out into the street upon hearing the detonations would have been injured, as well as the young child who accompanied her.
The alleged perpetrator was finally arrested around 4:00 AM the next day, when he returned to the neighborhood where part of the search operation of the Civil Guard and the Local Police remained deployed.
