The Public Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a prison sentence of three years, in addition to the withdrawal of the driving license for motor vehicles and mopeds for three years and two months, for a motorist accused of the crime of homicide by imprudence following the death of an eighty-year-old woman when she was leaving her home in the Ourense municipality of Cartelle.

At the preliminary hearing held this Thursday in Plaza number 2 of the Criminal Division of the Court of First Instance of Ourense, the parties reached no agreement, and the trial date has therefore been set for May 2027.

According to the written submission of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the events took place at around 15.00 hours on 23 March 2025, when the defendant was preparing to leave in his car the property in which he lived.

At that moment, when attempting to join the road by turning to the left and reversing, "entering an intersection despite having been able to leave his parking spot by carrying out the maneuver going forward," the driver did not notice the presence of the pedestrian, aged 84, who was walking in the area, and collided with her with the rear of the passenger car.

As a result of the accident, the woman suffered polytrauma that caused her death.
