Spain maintains this July 9 several relevant forest fires still not extinguished, although the situation has improved in recent hours. Emergency services are working above all on active fires such as the one in Castillonroy, in Huesca, and Espina de Tremor, in León, while Catalonia has declared the main fires that marked the previous day as stabilized.

The situation continues to be conditioned by high temperatures, low humidity, and extreme fire risk in large areas of the country. Although several hotspots have moved to the stabilization or control phase, authorities remind that a stabilized fire is not extinguished and that finishing, surveillance, and liquidation work can last for hours or days.

According to official information available as of July 9, Spain maintains at least 15 relevant forest fires still active, stabilized, or controlled. Of these, those presenting a more delicate situation are Castillonroy, in Aragón, and Espina de Tremor, in Castilla y León.

Catalonia: Bombers declares six fires stabilized and keeps La Bisbal d’Empordà controlled

The Bombers de la Generalitat have reported that the fires in Navarcles, Pla de Manlleu, Guimerà, Sentmenat, Anoia, and Gavà are stabilized. Specifically, the operation maintains 19 units in Navarcles, 25 in Pla de Manlleu, 13 in Guimerà, 37 in Sentmenat, 8 in Anoia, and 6 in Gavà.

In addition, the fire in La Bisbal d’Empordà, which affected the surroundings of Les Gavarres, is listed as controlled, with 7 units working through the night on the perimeter. Bombers' priority is now to check hot spots, prevent flare-ups, and consolidate perimeters before declaring the fires extinguished.

Castillonroy and Albelda: the Huesca fire remains active and in operational situation 2

The fire declared in Castillonroy, in the Huesca region of La Litera, continues to be active and forced the activation of Operational Situation 2 of the PROCINFO Plan. The fire has provisionally affected about 250 hectares of agricultural land with low scrub, although the overnight progress allowed the preventive confinement of Albelda to be lifted.

The Government of Aragon mobilized ground and air resources, MITECO resources, UME personnel, and support from local farmers. Authorities are maintaining surveillance over the perimeter and have asked the public to respect road closures, stay away from the fire, and follow only official instructions.

Almonte and Rociana del Condado: INFOCA keeps Huelva fire stabilized

In Andalusia, the fire declared between Rociana del Condado and Almonte, in Huelva, is listed as stabilized. The INFOCA Plan identifies it as #IFAlmonte and maintains resources on the ground to move towards its definitive control.

Stabilization means the fire is evolving within the planned control lines, but authorities remind that there may be hot spots within the perimeter and that the surveillance device continues to be necessary.

Grazalema: Cádiz fire is controlled, but mopping-up tasks continue

The forest fire in Grazalema, in the area of El Alamillo, has been declared controlled by the INFOCA Plan. The fire had already been stabilized previously and the evacuees were able to return to their homes, although the operation continues to work on mopping-up and extinguishing efforts.

Authorities have explained that a controlled fire may still contain hot spots within it, so extinguishing resources remain deployed to prevent flare-ups.

Soneja: Castellón fire remains controlled

In the Valencian Community, the forest fire in Soneja, which affected the surroundings of the Sierra de Espadán and burned around 180 hectares, remains controlled. Emergencias 112CV reported that the advance of the flames was halted, although firefighters continue to work on the complete extinction of the fire.

The Generalitat Valenciana maintains its call for caution due to the extreme risk of fires and asks people to avoid any activity that could generate sparks in forest areas or near dry vegetation.

Espina de Tremor: the main active fire in León remains in IGR 1

In Castilla y León, the fire in Espina de Tremor, in the Leonese municipality of Igüeña, remains active and at Potential Severity Index 1. The Junta maintains this classification due to the risk of the flames affecting more than 30 hectares of woodland, although the evolution is more favorable than in the early hours.

The operation is working to consolidate the perimeter and prevent the fire from advancing into new forest areas. The priority remains to prevent flare-ups and reduce risk in a context marked by dry thunderstorms and heat.

Ribota de Sajambre, Porqueros and Villanueva de Valdueza: fires in León already at level 0 or stabilized

The situation has also improved in other hotspots in Castilla y León. The fire in Ribota de Sajambre has dropped to IGR 0 after the risk to the population disappeared, while the one in Porqueros has also dropped to level 0 after stabilizing its perimeter and allowing the reopening of affected communications.

The fire in Villanueva de Valdueza, in Ponferrada, remains stabilized and contained, with ground surveillance to prevent flare-ups. Although these fires no longer present the initial severity, the teams continue to work on the perimeters.

Guntín: the fire in Lugo is now extinguished

In Galicia, the Xunta has declared the forest fire in Guntín, in the parish of Sirvián, extinguished. The fire was put out at 00:23 on July 9 and ultimately affected 32.37 hectares, all of them wooded.

The Consellería do Medio Rural reminds citizens to call 085 for any forest fire in Galicia and that the anonymous telephone number 900 815 085 is also available to report possible arson activities.

Official recommendations for extreme fire risk

The competent authorities maintain a common message: maximum caution while the heatwave and extreme risk of forest fires continue.

Civil Protection, Bombers, INFOCA, 112CV, the Xunta, and regional extinction services recommend not accessing restricted forest areas, respecting lockdowns and evacuations, not using fire or barbecues, avoiding machinery that could generate sparks, not discarding cigarette butts or combustible waste, and calling 112 immediately upon seeing any column of smoke.

The public is also asked not to practice "fire tourism," not to obstruct the passage of emergency vehicles, and to only follow information disseminated through official channels.
