The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, announced this Tuesday that the Govern will launch an emergency housing fund, initially endowed with 25 million euros, intended to acquire homes from individuals or families who are about to face eviction.
During his intervention in the General Policy Debate in the Parlament, Illa detailed several initiatives against the housing crisis in Catalonia, a challenge he defined as a "mission of the country," and that he said he wants to tackle alongside parliamentary groups, municipalities, financial entities, and the construction sector.
The president also explained that the loan program will be strengthened to facilitate young people buying their first home and that a shared purchase formula for properties between elderly people and the Generalitat will be implemented, with a usage license that will range between 40 and 50 years.
Illa also referred to the decrees approved this Tuesday by the Government in the Council of Ministers, calling on the parties for "broad-mindedness" so that they can be ratified.
In his speech, he insisted that in Catalonia "there is no space for speculation with housing," and he highlighted the "important agreements with the progressive forces" of the Parlament on this matter.
