The mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, assessed this Thursday that, after the eviction of the people who had camped for housing in Plaza de España for about 40 days, the space “is once again for all the people of Palma.”
The councilman has shared a video on social media, recorded in the central square of the Balearic capital, now without any trace of the tents, after the intervention carried out this Wednesday night to carry out the eviction and dismantling of the camp.
Martínez explained that the operation was carried out in application of the Civic Ordinance and the Ordinance on Occupation of Public Space, after having requested on several occasions that the Delegation of the Government intervene within its powers.
“Palma has ordinances that must be complied with. The civic ordinance and the ordinance on occupation of public space are for all citizens. And I have the obligation to defend all the rights of the citizens of Palma,” he says.
The first councilman ends the video by thanking the work of the Local Police, the staff of Emaya, and the whole set of municipal services “that have made it possible for Plaza de España to be what it was.”
