The general secretary of the PSOE in Castilla y León, Carlos Martínez, has warned that the Community faces the summer season "with the same shortcomings as last year" regarding forest fire prevention. For this reason, he has requested the appearance in the Cortes of the acting Minister of Environment, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones.
During a press conference in Soria, focused on the preparation for the 2027 municipal elections, Martínez alluded to the "indifference of the Executive" which has been "acting for more than two months" and has not "rendered accounts" before Parliament since the last ordinary Plenary session held in December.
In relation to the forest fire prevention and extinction device for the 2026 campaign, he stressed that "Unions, companies, and local administrations have warned about the chaotic situation, the lack of resources, and planning."
According to what he indicated, the workers have made it clear that preventive work has been reduced compared to the previous year and that no modifications have been introduced in the operation, which has led them to threaten to stop providing services if the system is not adapted to the new legislation they have been expecting since 2024.
Martínez has criticized the attitude of the regional president and the head of Environment by stating that "All that is left for us is to cross our fingers in the self-satisfaction in which Mr. Mañueco and Mr. Quiñones live and commend ourselves to I don't know whom."
Finally, he has called on Vox to clarify its position, recalling that in the last legislature it supported Suárez-Quiñones when he was censured by the entire parliamentary spectrum.
