The Union of Tenants, the Retiro Norte Neighborhood Association and the Regional Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Madrid have called for this Saturday a remembrance event for Maricarmen Abascal, when one month has passed since her death, according to what the FRAVM has reported.
The tribute will take place at 19:00 hours at the home where she lived for more than seven decades, located at number 46 Alcalde Sainz de Baranda Street, in the Retiro district.
The Retiro Norte Neighborhood Association and the Union of Tenants, the two organizations that supported her in her fight to continue living in her home, have driven together with the FRAVM this recognition in front of the building’s entrance where she lived.
"Despite the fact that after several years of battle Maricarmen managed to win the game against Urbagestión, the vulture fund that arrived to evict her from her home, our neighbor was not able to return to her home to spend her last days there, as she died in the hospital where she was taken after her eviction. But her commitment and determination to fight for what is fair live today in the thousands and thousands of people, many of them young, who at this moment are mobilizing for the right to decent housing and preparing the general strike of 11N", the organizers emphasize.
During the event, a family member of Maricarmen will take the floor, and there will be participation from the choir EnTreCantos, which will provide music for the tribute with several songs by Fran Sinatra, Maricarmen’s favorite singer.
