The counselor of Housing, Youth, and Land Planning, Rocío Díaz, criticized this Tuesday the central Government for pushing forward the new housing decree in the Council of Ministers without consulting the autonomous communities. According to her complaint, "They do not consult us, they impose on us."
In an interview on Canal Sur radio reported by Europa Press, Rocío Díaz stated that she respects the mobilizations that arose after the case of Mari Carmen in Madrid and insisted that these protests "are against Pedro Sánchez" because "his policies are an absolute failure."
The Andalusian official condemned the way the central Executive is acting. In her opinion, "What is happening is unacceptable. The communities have not been consulted regarding the measures" included in the decree and added that "We do not know what is being negotiated" with their parliamentary partners to get it approved in the Congress of Deputies.
In this context, Díaz warned that "any measure can retract the market, withdraw apartments, and raise rental prices," referring to the recovery of the old rent as a way to prevent situations like that of Mari Carmen from happening again.
In contrast to the "failure" she attributes to Pedro Sánchez, the counselor has claimed that in Andalusia "we strictly follow our housing policy," focused on streamlining administrative procedures and promoting the construction of more affordable housing. In this regard, she recalled the decree of urgent measures that "focused on" free land with the aim of building affordable housing as quickly as possible.
Díaz emphasized that a total of 180 municipalities "of all political colors" have adhered to this decree, which, in her opinion, demonstrates that housing is not an ideological issue but "management, management, and more management." Looking ahead to the upcoming budget for 2027, the counselor has announced an "important chapter" of initiatives aimed at facilitating young people's access to a home.
