The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, has appointed Bernardo Antonio Cordovez Cereceda as the new head of Economic and Productive Development, after the resignation submitted by Sariha Belén Moya Angulo. This is recorded in Executive Decree number 509 released this Monday by the Presidency of Ecuador.
Until his appointment, Cordovez served as the government's representative on the board of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS), a position from which he visited various healthcare centers to firsthand understand their shortcomings and listen to patients' opinions about the treatment received.
The new minister holds a degree in Financial Management, with a mention in Securities Markets, from the Espíritu Santo University (Ecuador), and another in Financial Administration from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (Mexico).
During her time at the head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which began in April 2025, Moya has carried out the negotiation of a financing package with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and has achieved an improvement in Ecuador's rating from S&P, Moody's, and Fitch.
However, she has submitted her resignation from the 'super ministry', created last June through the integration of the Ministry of Economy and Finance with that of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments, and Fisheries, expressing her gratitude to Noboa for the opportunity to serve her "beloved country".
