BBVA considers that, even in the event of being sanctioned or declared civilly responsible for the alleged illegal orders to the former commissioner José Manuel Villarejo between 2004 and 2016, the effect on its accounts would not be "material".

This is stated in the semiannual report sent this Friday to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), where the entity refers to the decision of the judge of the National Court Antonio Piña, who on July 9 agreed to open a trial against the bank, its former president Francisco González, and 14 other people.

In the document, BBVA states that "it is not possible to predict at this time the possible outcomes nor estimate their possible implications for the group. An adverse outcome in this matter could lead to potential fines and/or civil liabilities, both in no case material, or other adverse consequences, including possible negative effects on the group's reputation".

The trial, which still has no date, is framed within piece 9 of the macro case "Tándem", focused on Villarejo's private businesses. The magistrate sends BBVA to trial for an alleged crime of bribery and another 52 alleged crimes of discovery and revelation of secrets.

Regarding Francisco González, the instructor processes him for alleged crimes of active and passive bribery, 42 crimes of discovery and revelation of secrets, membership in a criminal group, disloyal administration, and documentary falsification.

The Prosecutor's Office requests 173 years in prison for the former president of BBVA and another 174 years for Villarejo, in addition to demanding a fine of 181 million euros for the financial entity.

After the opening of the oral trial was announced three weeks ago, BBVA sources indicated to Europa Press that the entity "has always defended that no criminal responsibility derives from the investigated facts" for the bank.
