BBVA has received the approval of the financial supervisors of Japan for its new subsidiary in the country, BBVA Japan Securities Limited, to carry out intermediation, trading, and placement of financial instruments --"Type I Financial Instruments Business"--. This advance will allow the group to strengthen its international distribution network among Japanese institutional investors.

Specifically, on August 31, the entity obtained the official registration from the Financial Services Agency of Japan (JFSA, for its acronym in English) and the Kanto Local Finance Bureau (KLFB, for its acronym in English), which enables it to develop these activities. Subsequently, on September 30, the new company has become part of the Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA, for its acronym in English).

"This authorization will allow the creation of a high value-added bridge between Japanese capital and our global product platform," explained the president and representative director of BBVA Japan Securities Limited, Yuko Kamiya.

The obtaining of the regulatory permit implies the launch of a local BBVA platform in the Japanese market, whose purpose will be to directly link the institutional investors of the country with the group's global platform.

BBVA Japan Securities Limited will make possible the distribution of structured credit products and investment solutions from markets where the bank has a particularly relevant presence, such as Mexico, the United States, and Spain.

In this way, the new subsidiary represents a step forward in the international distribution capacity of BBVA Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB), by opening to Japanese institutional investors access to the group's global financial solutions.

Japan, a strategic market for BBVA

According to the financial entity, Japan is a key market for BBVA CIB due to "the depth and sophistication of its financial markets, the international weight of its large corporations, and its growing relevance in global investment and capital flows."

The Basque bank recalls that, until now, access in Japan to the international products of the Group required addressing BBVA teams located outside the country. With BBVA Japan Securities Limited, Japanese institutional investors will have a specialized, regulated interlocutor established in their own business environment.

"This will allow them to diversify their portfolios in an agile manner, eliminating operational frictions and having direct and close support, without leaving their usual financial ecosystem," they have specified from the entity presided over by Carlos Torres.

With the obtaining of the necessary licenses and its entry into the JSDA, BBVA completes the main milestones for the deployment of this new structure, with which it aims to strengthen its presence in Japan and connect local institutional investors with its global financial capabilities.
