The international fund manager Fidelity has reduced its stake in Bankinter to 0.991%, the lowest level since it entered the bank's shareholding in July 2021, when it reported an initial stake of 1.069%, according to the latest data recorded by the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) and consulted by Europa Press.
Since its arrival at the entity now led by Gloria Ortiz, the British firm gradually increased its weight in Bankinter until reaching a maximum of 3.025% in January 2023. From then on, it initiated an orderly exit process that materialized in two additional sales, in March 2023 and June 2025, until placing its presence below 1% this Tuesday.
After this last adjustment, Fidelity holds around 8.91 million shares of Bankinter in its portfolio. Taking the stock market closing of this Tuesday as a reference, with the bank's shares at 15.985 euros, the package is valued at about 142 million euros.
Compared to its previous position of 1.962% of the capital —equivalent to 17.63 million shares—, the manager has nearly halved its investment in the bank. In total, it has sold more than 8.73 million shares, a block that, at current prices, would be around 140 million euros.
The stake of this firm based in Bermuda consists exclusively of voting rights directly associated with the shares (0.991%), with no additional exposure through financial instruments with voting rights.
Among the reference shareholders of Bankinter are the heirs of Jaime Botín, who, through Cartival, control more than 23% of the capital since December 2020, remaining the largest shareholder of the bank. Alongside them are also Fernando Masaveu Herrero, with 5.31%, and institutional investors such as BlackRock, with nearly 5%; FMR LLC, with 3.779%; Bank of America, with 3.103%; and Lazard Asset Management, with 3.032%.
