The General Index of Industrial Production (IPI) advanced by 3.8% in June compared to the same month in 2025, which represents an acceleration of 3.3 points compared to the increase recorded in May, according to data released this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
With this year-on-year rebound in June, the most intense since April, when a +4.4% was recorded, industrial activity has now accumulated four consecutive months of growth.
The positive behavior of production in June is explained by the increase in intermediate goods (+5.7%), energy (+4.6%), capital goods (+3.1%), and non-durable consumer goods (+1.8%). In contrast, durable consumer goods reduced their production by 0.5% compared to a year earlier.
If seasonal and calendar effects are eliminated, industrial production registered a year-on-year increase of 1.1% in June, that is, two points less than in May. Nevertheless, the seasonally adjusted series also chains four consecutive months of advances, although the one in June is the mildest of this period.
In the monthly comparison (June over May) and once seasonality and the calendar are corrected, the IPI fell by 0.7%, compared to the increase of 1% observed in May.
By sectors of activity, energy was the sector with the best performance in the month, with a growth of 2.5%, while capital goods suffered the largest decline, with a drop of 1.6%.
