The Ibex 35 index of the Madrid Stock Exchange started the day this Thursday with a rise of 0.45%, which allowed the selective to place itself above the historical threshold of 20,100 points, after having signed a maximum close of 20,057 units the day before.
Specifically, the Ibex 35 opened this Thursday at 20,147 points, in a context where the barrel of Brent oil, a reference in Europe, advanced around 0.2%, to 79.6 dollars. At the same time, the price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI), a reference in the United States, remained practically stable at 75.2 dollars per barrel.
A few minutes after the bell rang, the Madrid selective accelerated its gains to nearly 1% and managed to surpass the unprecedented mark of 20,200 points.
Throughout the day, investors will closely follow the details of the agreement reached between Oman and Iran for the management of maritime transit in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, as well as the new unemployment figures in the United States.
On the European front, before the opening of the stock markets, provisional data on factory orders in Germany was released, which recorded an increase of 3.1% in June, clearly above expectations and the 0.3% advance noted the previous month.
In Spain, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) announced this Thursday the industrial production figures for June, which accelerated its year-on-year growth by more than three points, to 3.8%, thus chaining its fourth consecutive year-on-year increase.
Likewise, the market will be attentive to the auction held today by the Spanish Treasury, in which the agency aims to place between 5.25 billion and 6.75 billion euros in bonds and state obligations.
In the early stages of the session, around 9:10 a.m., banks led the advances within the Ibex 35. BBVA recorded a 1.7% increase, while Bankinter and Unicaja added 1.3%. For its part, Sabadell and Santander gained 1.2% and CaixaBank appreciated by 1.1%.
Outside the financial sector, the increases of Telefónica and Cellnex (+1.5% in both cases) stood out, as well as Inditex (+1.1%).
On the downside, the largest corrections at the beginning of the day corresponded to ACS, which fell by 0.3%, and to Sacyr, Merlin, and Grifols, which each declined by 0.2%.
At the same time, the main European stock exchanges showed a mixed behavior at the opening of this Thursday. The Ftse100 of London advanced by about 0.2% and the CAC 40 of Paris rose by 0.6%, while the Dax of Frankfurt fell by 0.1%.
In the debt market, the yield of the Spanish 10-year bond was at 3.55%, while in the foreign exchange market the euro lost ground against the dollar, trading in the markets at an exchange rate of 1.1545 dollars.
