MASMOVIL has launched My Auxiliary WiFi, a free service that allows devices in a home to remain connected when there is a disruption of the fixed connection. The solution uses the mobile phone as a hotspot and replicates the usual WiFi network of the home so that connected devices can regain internet access without having to be reconfigured.
The new functionality is launched exclusively for the brand's customers and is activated remotely when there is an incident in the fixed network. The service is initially available for convergent customers with phones using Android 16 or higher, although the company plans to gradually expand the number of users who can use it.
The technology also has an exclusive patent from Orange Spain granted by the European Patent Office, according to the company.

My Auxiliary WiFi is designed to function as a backup connection in the event of incidents that temporarily interrupt the fiber service, such as outages caused by public works or by weather phenomena.
When an incident is detected, MASMOVIL informs the customer via SMS and offers the possibility to activate the service. Activation can be done from the user area or the company's app.

Once activated, the phone replicates the name of the usual WiFi network of the home, known as SSID, and uses the same password as the router. In this way, devices that were already connected to the home network can automatically recognize the alternative connection.
The system is designed to keep the entire digital ecosystem of the home connected: from computers, tablets, and phones to Smart TVs, consoles, voice assistants, smart home devices, or security cameras. The user does not have to re-enter the passwords or configure each device individually.
For devices to correctly detect the new network, MASMOVIL indicates that it is necessary to turn off the router before activating My Auxiliary WiFi.
The system notifies when the fiber connection returns
The solution also includes the reverse process. When the availability of the fiber connection is restored, the system informs the customer so that they can deactivate My Auxiliary WiFi and return to using their usual fixed connection.
Rafael Palmar, director of Quality at Orange Spain, explains that the objective is to provide an alternative to the home connection when a breakdown occurs, using the phone as a hotspot and maintaining the home network. Among the situations contemplated by the company are fiber cuts due to construction work or weather circumstances.
Angélica Sánchez, director of Commercial Offer at Orange Spain, points out that the new function seeks for the recovery of connectivity to occur automatically and without the user having to make additional configurations.
The company defines My Auxiliary WiFi as a solution that allows maintaining home connectivity while the fiber incident is resolved. Its availability will be gradually expanded to more customers and compatible devices.
