The Radisson Blu Sheffield has achieved official Verified Net Zero certification, becoming the second hotel of Radisson Hotel Group to reach carbon neutrality in the UK, after the accreditation obtained by its property in Manchester, and the eleventh in the group worldwide.
This progress fits into the company’s roadmap, which seeks to have 100 hotels with neutral emissions before 2030.
The sustainability model analyzed includes the elimination of the direct and indirect carbon footprint (Scope 1 and 2 of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol), as well as emissions associated with the supply chain and operations (Scope 3).
To achieve this goal, the hotel, which has 154 rooms, operates on 100% renewable energy and has implemented an external audit system overseen by the independent entity TÜV Rheinland.
In the operational area, the company has incorporated energy efficiency measures, waste reduction initiatives, and low-carbon menus designed together with the Swedish firm Klimato, capable of reducing by up to 40% the environmental footprint of the dining area.
The residual emissions that cannot be avoided are offset through nature-based carbon credits, in collaboration with the agrotech platform Agreena.
