The ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Spain, Yao Jing, held this Wednesday in Madrid a meeting with representatives of the Spanish business fabric, where he focused on the confidence of Chinese companies in the domestic market and on the possibilities for collaboration in investment, innovation and trade. Jing highlighted the place that Spain occupies within the framework of economic cooperation between China and Europe.
Senior executives and representatives of sectors such as the automotive industry, energy, industrial machinery, the agri-food sector, cosmetics, bathroom fixtures, tourism, information technologies, banking and legal services attended the meeting. Business organizations, chambers of commerce and economic analysis centers also took part.
In his speech, centered primarily on Spain, Jing stressed that, among the continent’s major economies, Spain has maintained an open and pragmatic stance toward China, and he reiterated that the companies of the Asian country show confidence both in the market and in the Spanish regulatory framework.
The ambassador emphasized the good reception that public administrations and local partners provide to investment projects, especially those linked to clean energies. He added that the Chinese Government aspires for its companies to operate in Spain as partners in investment, innovation and supply chains, betting on local manufacturing and industrial presence.
As China’s representative in Spain and Andorra, he described Europe as a key partner in economic globalization and argued that bilateral trade with China should move toward greater balance through more exchanges. At the same time, he acknowledged European concern about the deficit in goods and held that China can be part of the solution to the EU’s competitiveness challenges, especially in the areas of digital industry and the green economy.
Economic cooperation between Spain and China
With regard to the automobile sector, Jing indicated that the entry of Chinese brands expands options for the consumer and should go hand in hand with production and job creation in Spanish territory, showing his support for greater technological exchange and for strengthening cooperation in R&D.
Also, he mentioned hydrogen as an area in which business collaboration already exists and expressed China’s intention to increase purchases of wine, olive oil, and pork products, with a planned business mission for spring 2027. He also highlighted the increase in tourist flows in both directions and proposed that machinery manufacturers from the two countries study joint initiatives in third markets.
