A tanker that was sailing in waters off the east coast of Oman has been hit by an "unknown projectile," according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center, an agency linked to the British Navy.

In the official note released by British authorities, it is detailed that the captain of the vessel has confirmed that the entire crew is unharmed after the incident and that, so far, no spills or environmental damage have been reported in the affected area.

"The captain of a tanker has reported that his vessel has been struck by an unknown projectile on the port side. According to reports, the entire crew is safe and, for the moment, no environmental impact has been communicated. Authorities are investigating the incident," the statement reads.

At the same time, naval forces in the region have launched an investigation to determine the origin and circumstances of the attack, while the UKMTO has urged merchant ships passing through the area to enhance security measures and to immediately report any movement or presence they consider suspicious.
