The Syrian authorities have communicated this Thursday the detention of two individuals accused of having committed alleged war crimes during a military operation carried out in November 2013 by the forces of Bashar al Assad in the locality of Uadi al Maula, in the province of Homs, an action in which dozens of civilians lost their lives.
The arrested have been identified as Fayez Abbas Ajal and Naser Muhamad Ghosn, for "war crimes and their involvement, along with the security forces of the former regime, in attacks against civilians in the rural area of Homs," according to what the Syrian Ministry of Interior has pointed out through its accounts on social networks.
According to this ministry, during the interrogations both "confessed" to having taken part, along with armed groups "affiliated" with the Military Intelligence Directorate under the now-defunct Syrian authorities, in the "siege and assault" on the village of Uadi al Maula, in the Talkalaj area, an operation carried out in November 2023 that ended with the "massacre" of 40 civilians.
The Ministry has emphasized that these detentions are part of the efforts of the government led by Ahmed al Shara to bring to justice those responsible for the crimes committed during Al Assad's mandate.
