The Minister of the Interior of Ecuador, John Reimberg, announced this Saturday the seizure of almost 1.5 tons of cocaine in a joint operation carried out by the National Police and the Navy of Ecuador in jurisdictional waters near the Galapagos Islands.
In the intervention, 1,478.7 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride were confiscated, distributed in 32 packages that bore different logos. The operation was carried out entirely in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, in the province of Galapagos.
The shipment was destined for the United States, after departing from the Ecuadorian coast and making connections and transshipments at sea. According to the authorities, this seizure represents an economic loss of 90 million dollars for drug trafficking networks.
Among the evidence gathered during the procedure are the 1,478.7 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride and an electronic device, which will be subjected to analysis within the investigative proceedings.
