At least eight people have lost their lives and another twelve have been injured in a bus accident that occurred between the night of Friday and the early morning of Saturday in the municipality of Iraquara, in the Brazilian state of Bahia, according to the latest report released by the authorities.
The injured received emergency care at the scene of the accident before being evacuated to different health centers in the region. Twelve were transferred to the Regional Hospital of Seabra and one person to the Municipal Hospital Américo Chagas of Iraquara, according to the G1 network.
The bus was traveling on the BR-122 highway on a route that connected Fortaleza, in the state of Ceará, with Palmas, in the state of Tocantins, when the accident occurred and the vehicle ended up overturning on the roadway.
The Bahia Public Security Secretariat has announced the opening of an investigation to clarify the causes of the accident, in which the Civil Police and the Technical Police Department will participate.
